Description
This one week course will engage students in making music through singing, dancing, and playing instruments. Using various fairy tales and folk tales, students will bring stories to life as they sing and dance to various songs from around the world. Drumming and percussion instruments will help bring together the sound scape and challenge the students to make their own sound effects to enhance the stories.
Colleen Cooney is a Westport music educator at Saugatuck Elementary School where she teaches music to students in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade, and leads the 4th and 5th grade chorus. She is also involved in the school theatre program as the music director and enjoys helping students sing their best and explore their own creative ideas. Colleen has been a music educator for 22 years studying at the University of Connecticut, University of St. Joseph and New York University. She is trained in Kodaly, Orff and Conversational Solfege and also is a trained opera singer having apprenticed at the Aspen School of Music.
